The ITS Annual Scientific Meeting 2010, held in the Silver Springs Hotel, Cork in November was a great success from both an educational and a social point of view.
We were delighted to welcome colleagues from the North of England Thoracic Society (NETS) with whom we jointly hosed one of this year’s Symposia – Allergic and Occupational Diseases – and who contributed richly to the meetings presentations of original research. Dr Chris Stenton and Dr Stephen Bourke, both from Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, gave illuminating talks on Occupational Asthma and Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis respectively.
A second Symposium on Pulmonary Vascular Disease was saw Dr Marie Faughnan from University of Toronto and Dr Dr Martin O’Donnell, NUI Galway share their expert insights into Pulmonary Arterivenous Malformations in Hereditary Telangiectasia and Novel Anticoagulants for Treatment of Venous Thromboembolism respectively.
A central feature of the meeting was the presentation of original research in both oral and poster form, showcasing a wide range of important and innovative work. A new feature of this year’s meeting – the ITS Case Study Forum – saw posters and oral presentations stimulate lively discussion at the Thursday evening session.
Strong industry support was greatly appreciated and a very warm and hospitable welcome from the ‘People’s Republic of Cork’ ensured the meeting was as sociable as it was educational – sincere thanks to all involved.
